meditation 30.10.19

Today I chose something a little different: a hypnosis session on building self confidence and self belief. This takes you on a gentle journey to early life experiences, to learn when you started to have self doubt, and to remember an earlier time when you had all the confidence you needed...

meditation 18.09.19

Today the meditation I have chosen is about calming the busy mind. It has breathing techniques, some body scan and at the end some self-realisation. Somehow a lot gets covered in just 20 minutes. Very calming, I hope you enjoy :)

meditation 05.06.19

For today's meditation I am going back to one we have listened to a while ago from the mindful movement on calming the busy mind. This one focuses on feeling the gap between each breath, allowing you to let go of tensions and become present and aware of sensations.

wellness: posture chairs!

Image result for kneeling posture chair

Wellness comes in many forms, and there are even more ways we can improve our well-being. I want to share my discovery of my posture chair, which drastically improved my back pain associated with long hours sitting at my computer.

I suffer from upper back pain when I sit for extended periods on a regular office chair. This takes the form of a sharp burning between my shoulders, spreading across my upper back and up my neck, and can also trigger headaches. Not a great situation to be in.

After suffering with this for quite some time, and trying things like regular breaks, upgrading to a more fancy office chair with 'better' support, stretching etc, I discovered posture chairs...

... My new chair has made a huge difference to my back pain. You sit with your knees kneeling on the lower pad with your feet kicked out behind you, and your bottom on the upper pad. I was lucky enough to have my work place buy me my chair, but if you are not this lucky they are pretty affordable (much more affordable in comparison with some regular office chairs).

meditation 29.05.19

Today's meditation is a lovely soothing and straightforward body scan meditation. A little longer than I usually choose (29 minutes); the longer length allows for a very steady scan through your body, relaxing as you go :)

Today's meditation is from the Mindful Movement on self love - 'you cannot give what you do not have'. It will have you relaxing fully, with a beach visualisation and positive affirmations.

meditation 15.05.19

Today I have chosen a meditation from the mindful movement on inner and outer harmony.

This is what mindful movement say about this meditation:

"Our bodies are programmed to heal, yet an over-thinking mind and over-stressed body will interfere with the healing process. This meditation will guide you to simply focus on your field of awareness in the safe space of the practice. It can help you relax, restore your natural balance and relieve stress that could be getting in the way of your body’s healing process. There is an expression: Energy Flows, Where Attention Goes. Today, I will guide you to attend to relaxation and healing for a rejuvenating experience"

Have a wonderful day

mid-week quote 24.04.19

As there is no meditation this week, I thought I'd share a quote with you that I heard about a year ago now. It really made me stop and think, and often still comes back into my mind:

'If you keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what you are getting'

After turning this quote around in my mind, it seems to me that this is a sort of glass half full/empty situation; you could either read this and think, wow, this is so true I need to change what I am doing because I don't like what I am getting, or you could think the opposite: I need to keep doing what I am doing because the outcomes are great and I am happy.

I think a lot of us will probably first think of this quote in the context of the first statement, but hopefully if you dig a little deeper, you will also find things within your life that fit with the second :)

meditation 17.04.19

Today's meditation is actually the first one I played back in January when this all began :) I really liked this one and so I thought it was worth re-visiting:

This one has some breathing focus, and also a lovely guided trip to a beautiful and relaxing secret garden, where we are invited to look around and relax.

This weeks meditation is from The Mindful Movement. It focuses on your breath and the gap between each breath, and there is also some body scan letting go of tension.

This is the first time I have come across The Mindful Movement; I like how clear the meditation is, with the music being very light and in the background.

meditation 27.02.19

Today's guided meditation is a very soothing one that I find really relaxing as well as grounding. It is a bit like a teaching as well as a meditation, and I think different people will take different things away from it. I have listened to it a few times and I think each time I have gone away with a different level of appreciation for what it is conveying.

meditation 20.02.19

Today's meditation will be a mindfulness meditation, all about being in the present, letting your thoughts come and go without judging them, and allowing focusing on your breath to ground you :)

I really like this one as it very gently guides you to try to let go of all of that thinking our brains are constantly doing, reminding you of your meditation and bringing you back to the present moment while also giving you periods with just the music.

You can also find it on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtW92lKLzTQ&t=238s

There is one bit about 15 minutes in when the narration stops for a few minutes and there is no music - First time through I started wondering if the internet had gone down (my bad, I know I should have been meditating!). Don't worry, this is meant to be silent at this time ;)

Hope you enjoy

The meditation I found for today is on a wonderful app I was recently introduced to called insight timer. Insight timer has a huge library of free meditations, and you can narrow down your choice by selecting different aims and types of meditation. If you are interested in the app, you can find out more here: https://insighttimer.com/meditation-app

Lots of different people have contributed to the meditations available on insight timer. I chose the 15 minute body scan from take care coaching.

If you don't have/want this app, I found a slightly shorter version of the same meditation on take care coaching's own website:

today's meditation 30.01.19

Thank you to everyone who came to the first of many mid-week meditations today. It was wonderful to see the room full of people with the same purpose: to relax, re-balance and re-focus :)

The meditation I chose today can be found on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldwRuRExuYc

And I am also embedding it here:

Wondering about coming next Wednesday but not sure? Here is a picture of the room set-up to entice you, this was complete with soothing music, which of course you have to come to experience ;)

How does it work?

We listen to online meditations for about 15 – 30 minutes each Wednesday, gathering at 12:00 for a 12:05 start in SR12, Life Sciences building third floor. I will be sourcing the material, and also very happy to take suggestions for what to listen to next :)

If you are coming along, you may want to bring a rug to keep warm or a pillow to help you sit comfortably (either on a chair or the floor, whichever you prefer). If you don’t have these, I have spares, as you can see in the photo!

Do I need to book a place?

I have set up eventbrite bookings for each Wednesday (https://mwmeditation.eventbrite.com). This is because there is a limited space in the room (about 20 people at a stretch)…. and also because it makes me very happy to see people booking on ;) . Having said that, dropping in without a booking is fine if there is space, I will always try to squeeze you in.

Take care

Fabia

how mid-week meditation works

I am starting to hear chatter about mid-week meditation in the corridors :) Here is a little more about it...

This is a weekly opportunity for staff and PhDs to take some time-out to meditate. Often a block to doing this kind of thing (apart from finding the time) is figuring out how to get started. If you are interested in meditating, or more generally finding more balance in your day, I am taking that first barrier to you taking action away by hosting a meditation session every Wednesday.

How does it work?

We will be listening to online meditations for about 15 – 30 minutes each week. I will be sourcing the material, and also very happy to take suggestions for what to listen to next :)

If you are coming along, you may want to bring a rug to keep warm or a pillow to help you sit comfortably (either on a chair or the floor, whichever you prefer). If you don’t have these, I will be bringing some spares you can borrow.

Do I need to book a place?

I have set up eventbrite bookings for each Wednesday (https://mwmeditation.eventbrite.com). This is because there is a limited space in the room (about 20 people)…. and also because it makes me very happy to see people booking on ;) . Having said that, dropping in without a booking is fine if there is space, which there most likely will be.

So that’s it! Every Wednesday at 12:00 for a 12:05 start in Sr12 Life Sciences building, third floor.

Here's to Wednesdays!

Fabia

the beginning...

Hello and welcome to the start of mid-week meditation!

No matter what your job/role/path in life, you will know that finding time to look after your physical and mental self can be challenging to say the least. Too often we are consumed by our everyday tasks, worries and frustrations, and our priorities shift away from basic self care.

I am setting up this mid-week meditation site, and sit-down sessions in the School of Life Sciences, University of Liverpool, to try to provide space and time for a little mid-week reprieve and re-balancing.

The idea is simple: every Wednesday at 12:00 I have booked a space (SR12, Life Sciences bld.) for like-minded wellness seekers to meet and meditate. I will bring audio guided meditations of different styles each time for us to enjoy.

I hope this is of interest to you, and that you can drop in to give it a go.... this is new for me too ;)

To help me have an idea of numbers, please book yourself a place using EventBrite:

https://mwmeditation.eventbrite.com

I also hope to gather meditation resources and information on this blog, so watch this space.
